Inheritable differences in the electrophoretic pattern of hemoglobin revealed in a local random-bred colony of albino rats.

I N THE COURSE OF OUR INVESTIGATION on the hemoglobins of various strains of laboratory rats with the use of starch-gel electrophoresis in a discontinuous buffer system, we have recently demonstrated the presence of three distinct patterns of hemoglobin, arbitrarily denoted as patterns I, II and III, in a local random-bred stock of Albino rats; out of 124 investigated male and female adult animals, 48 belonged to pattern I, 57 to pattern II and 19 to pattern III hemoglobin.’ The observed patterns of hemoglobin are shown in Fig. 1.
